Hawwa Haseena

Human Resources & Strategic Planning Expert

Hawwa Haseena is a seasoned Human Resources professional with over a decade of leadership experience specializing in human resources management and development. She has held key roles at the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, and the Maldives National Tourism Board, where she leveraged her HR expertise and leadership skills to support and advance organizational goals. Her professional accomplishments have been recognized widely. She was named among the 50 Most Influential HR Leaders at the HR Summit and Expo in 2019 and further received the prestigious Gold Category Career Leadership in Administration award in 2024 organized by Women in Management - Maldives (WIM Maldives), celebrating outstanding women leaders across various fields in the country.

Haseena holds a Master of Business Administration degree, graduating with distinction and receiving recognition for academic excellence, along with a Bachelor's degree (Honours) in Human Resources Management.

Her extensive expertise covers all critical facets of human resources, including strategic planning, policy formulation, regulatory compliance, Training Needs Analysis, recruitment and selection, performance management, and review. Additionally, Ms. Haseena possesses strong capabilities in designing organizational salary structures, job descriptions, and employment contracts, with experience providing consultancy services to private sector clients in these areas. She is committed to promoting women's empowerment in the workplace and advocates for inclusive policies.

Uza Fathimath Yumna

Legal and Policy Expert

With over 14 years of experience in the legal profession, Fathimath Yumna began her career in the Judiciary as a Deputy Legal Officer at the Supreme Court of Maldives. As a Legal Consultant at the Ministry of Economic Development, she currently oversees legal and policy matters, including drafting of Contracts, Bills, and Regulations.

Yumna holds a Master of Comparative Laws and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from the International Islamic University, Malaysia, and has been a licensed lawyer since 2009.

She is specialized in legal drafting, research, and advisory work. Her strong foundation in legislative work and governance enables her to deliver precise, practical, and principled legal solutions, contributing to high standards of integrity and professional excellence.

Aishath Shifana

Human Rights and Gender Specialist

Aishath Shifana has over a decade of experience in the field of human rights, gender and women empowerment. She commenced her career in human rights at the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, where she held various roles, including Director of Advocacy. In this capacity, she managed and developed strategies for the Commission's human rights advocacy and educational initiatives. She was instrumental in designing various advocacy strategies at the Commission, including Business and Human Rights strategy, Environment and Human Rights strategy, and the Inter-school Human Rights Quiz Competition. Moreover, she contributed to reviewing laws and policies pertaining to human rights and was involved in monitoring various elections. Furthermore, she served as the gender focal in the Maldives Agribusiness Program funded by IFAD, overseeing and executing the gender and social change aspects of the project. She also contributed as a consultant to the research report titled "Climate Actions and Its Links to Gender Equality and Corruption in the Maldives", conducted by the Institute for Research and Innovation, Villa College and Transparency Maldives. She also held various roles in the Education sector and taught in courses at Maldives National University and other higher education institutes.

Shifana holds a Masters Degree in Education (MEd) from the University of Mysore and took part in numerous international seminars and conferences focused on human rights, in addition to facilitating both regional and international workshops. She is an alumnus and trainer of the Diplomacy Training Program (DTP), Australia.

Her expertise encompasses a wide array of interrelated areas such as business and human rights, transparency and good governance, labor and migration, gender equality and women's empowerment, social inclusion and community participation as well as environment and sustainable development.

Uza Mariyam Shamma Ismail

Governance & Compliance Specialist

Mariyam Shamma Ismail is a lawyer with over 14 years of experience in the Maldivian public sector, specializing in employment and labor law, legal and policy development, and good governance. Her professional background includes key roles at the Ministry of Economic Development, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives, and the Supreme Court of the Maldives, where she gained extensive experience in legislative drafting, regulatory compliance, and institutional reform.

Shamma holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of the West of England, Bristol, and diplomas in law from the HELP Institute, Malaysia.

Her work combines a deep understanding of law, governance, and workplace standards, allowing her to deliver practical and rights-based legal solutions. Drawing on her experience in drafting legislation and advising on policy, she supports organizations in achieving compliance, transparency, and sound governance practices.
